496 Programme konkurrieren in diesem Jahr, 17 davon werden vom Sender Freies Berlin während der Wettbewerbswoche ausgestrahlt. Von jetzt an erhalten die Preisträger des PRIX EUROPA neben dem Preisgeld auch eine Trophäe: den TAURUS, eine Bronzeskulptur des holländischen Bildhauers Anthon Hoornweg. Jede Skulptur ist ein handgemachtes Unikat.
