PRIX EUROPA 1996 - AT A GLANCE

Press conference in the Akademie der Künste, Berlin

Berlin and Potsdam, 6 October 1996

The competition’s role as a bridge builder between East and West has become of increasing importance and its prizes have become stamps of quality that have often given TV films from small countries their only opportunity to cross national frontiers.
The 10th anniversary of the competition sees a record of entries: 318 tv programmes from 34 countries. Public viewings and discussions in  both cities are part of the official progamme. Four juries made up of tv directors, authors, producers, distributors, commissioning editors and journalists selected the 8 prize winners. Princess Margriet of the Netherlands handed over the award to  the very young team of a very successful German youth magazine – „Moskito“.
