Awards Ceremony
On Saturday night, 29 October the 25th edition of the European Broadcasting festival PRIX EUROPA ended in Berlin with an Awards Gala.
The Awards Ceremony with more than 400 guests was held in the TIPI tent in Berlin Mitte.
For the first time the PRIX EUROPA awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award for outstanding achievements in service of the radio medium in Europe. It honoured Raina Konstantinova for her work as Director of the Radio Department of the European Broadcasting Union EBU since 2001. In this role she has left a strong mark on the development of Public Service Broadcasting not only in Bulgarian National Radio but in the whole of Europe.
The fate of Suzana Babic from war-torn Sarajevo who then was only 21 years old strongly moved PRIX EUROPA participants in 1994. The winner film of that year “Suzana from the cellar” described her everyday life living in the cellar of her primary school during the Balkan War. She lived there in very poor conditions, on her own, trying to survive. After a long and difficult search PRIX EUROPA managed to find Suzana in Sarajevo and invited her as a guest of honour to the Awards Ceremony . Her appearance on the stage was a very emotional moment, and a highlight of the evening.
