Television - Radio - Emerging Media: Europe selects its best productions 17 – 24 October 2009
For the 23rd time, PRIX EUROPA will showcase its trademark Made in Europe as a wide spectrum of quality programmes, giving its participants the chance to experience the cross-border programme development taking place.
The festival strengthens the personal dialogue between the creative minds of the international media market. In 2008, more than 1.000 delegates from over 40 countries made their way to PRIX EUROPA in Berlin.
The competition is held in eight categories. In 2009 for the first time, the prize for young talents Languages through Lenses will be awarded. Productions about multilingualism in Europe will form the basis of this competition. A Viewers Prize will also be awarded in this category - the prize will be awarded to the production with the most online votes.
For the fourth time, the European Radio Day will take place within the framework of PRIX EUROPA - this time under the theme Languages through Microphones. The Radio Day of European Cultures 2009 will bring listeners of all European countries together through the theme of multilingualism. Leonard Orban, Member of the European Commission responsible for Multilingualism bears the patronage of this day.
PRIX EUROPA distinguishes itself by its unique transparent jury system. The festival participants themselves – programme makers from across the continent – jointly assess and evaluate each entry in a public and open debate. All festival participants may take part in the Jury discussions as observers.
On the 24 October the thirteen prizes valued at €6.000,- each will be awarded with a PRIX EUROPA TROPHY to the prize winners.
The PRIX EUROPA Alliance 2009 brings 25 European Institutions and Broadcasters together.
