Synopsis
This project expands upon the widely read book "In Europa" by Dutch author Geert Mak. It takes Mak's oral history of Europe in the 20th century to a series of TV-documentaries. Each episode focuses on one year and tells the story of how events had an impact on the lives of people in a specific part of Europe.

"This project provides the user with an understanding of the impacts of
events in 20th century history of Europe on people’s lives. It tries to
discover new ways of communicating oral history.

As a crossmedia project it provides different types of material and
most impressive for the jury: The project makes use of a wide variety
of contemporary web applications as for instance visualising the
context of historical material related to time and place by the use of
a map-based navigation method. It enables the users to combine
information about a certain event to different places all over Europe.
Extra produced pod- and vodcasts deliver additional material on the
website which gives the users to possibility to submerge into the
different topics. The documentary episodes are presented as high
quality videos - offered in a special player that allows chaptered
playback and so enables the users to focus on content of particular
interest."
