What do they say about PRIX EUROPA 2009?

From across our continent media professionals have a point of view about PRIX EUROPA

Hans-Tore Bjerkaas, Director General, Norsk rikskringkasting

Our creative staff have travelled to Berlin to take part in evaluating the work of colleagues, as well as gather inspiration for their own projects. The way the competition is organized is highly valued, and the transparancy in the discussions and the work of the juries should be an example for other competitions and organizations.
NRK joined the Alliance in 2007, and we were proud to donate our first prize last October. I wish for everyone fruitful and inspiring days in Berlin!

Christina Björk, Director General - Utbildningsradion

We are a member of the PRIX EUROPA because of its unique qualities as a significant European media competition.
Over the years, many UR staff members came home with new contacts and ideas which have given input to the whole company. The programmes presented at the competition make it as well possible to understand the different conditions for media in Europe.

At the start of the new millennium we looked for a place to give Prix Iris, the European media award for multicultural TVprogrammes, a solid fundament. PRIX EUROPA in Berlin has proven to be perfect: it is there, where programme makers from Europe actually meet and discuss all aspects of programme making. It is the ideal platform to enhance the importance of diversity in public broadcasting and therewith helps to fulfill the crucial mission of Prix Iris: to counteract racial discrimination, prejudices and xenophobia in Europe.

Andreas Dresen - Film Director, Germany

A film is the result of many people's work, and it demands a high level of trust, communication and openness between everyone involved.
The same creative exchange constitutes the particular quality of PRIX EUROPA. Here all the aspects of a production are really brought out into the open, including those that are usually not so much in the public eye. It is the festival of creative minds, it doesn't just award prizes; the productions are talked about here. That's the great thing about it!

With programme makers from 40 countries keen to contribute to this rich showcase, the Prix Europa is now an annual harvest festival of excellence in media production.

Berlin has become an important meeting place for all who want to see and hear Europe’s most innovative and diverse work.  RTÉ is very pleased  to be a member of the Prix Europa and I wish it continuing success.

Shark tank – that was the first image that came to mind when, last year, we had the honour of taking part in PRIX EUROPA – a couple of rounds later, however, it became clear where the opportunities and strengths of this important hub for exchanging opinions might lie: in sometimes interrupting the food chain and allowing inspired and inspiring conversations to cause a stir.

Cross-border and cross-cultural cooperation by film makers from all over Europe offers an opportunity to realize large-scale productions with even higher quality and greater diversity in future.
PRIX EUROPA is the ideal platform for entering into a dialogue with potential co-producers and like-minded creative people. In such a context, Made in Europe does not remain just a vision, but can become the trademark of a new form of European film that sets completely new standards.

YLE is honored to be a partner in Prix Europa. The unique open jury system gives the real program makers a chance for an open discussion. They themselves vote for the best!
In Finland YLE is strongly developing its presence in the internet, because we think that it is essential for public
broadcasting. We are enthusiastic about the category Emerging Media!

In my position as President of PRIX EUROPA I would like to welcome you warmly to our continent’s festival for Television, Radio and Emerging Media. Founded in 1987, it has in the meantime become a must go for around 1,000 media professionals from 40 countries.
PRIX EUROPA started as a small flower and has during the 22 years of its existence turned into a blooming garden. This is made possible by the broad alliance of partners supporting the event. But the soul of the festival are its participants!

Raina Konstantinova - Director of Radio - European Broadcasting Union - EBU

Prix Europa is a hub.
Every third week of October hundreds of Radio, TV and new media producers from the four corners of the continent flock together at PRIX EUROPA in Berlin.  It has become a venue of professional excellence and debate, a meeting point for sharing ideas and  creative experience. It has the inimitable atmosphere of a fair, a forum and a competition, all in one.
It doesn’t care about drawing lines between young and old, traditional and new. It sets trends and it has character.

It is our pleasure to collaborate to PRIX EUROPA and observe its passion in developing the multilayered pan-European cooperation.
The mutual influences between European countries are enumerable and require a consciousness of various phenomena shaping our reality. A forum like PRIX EUROPA enriches us with numerous information about the other points of view, it is the best possible opportunity to widen the perspectives of our discussions.

Greetings from MTV’s brand new headquarters. The view of the Buda hills is excellent, but cannot compete with the Europe-wide panorama in Berlin-Brandenburg in October when Prix Europa takes place. Please take in the magnificent view of the European media landscape and bring a new colour next year!

I am very proud and pleased that the prestigious PRIX EUROPA has found its permanent harbour at rbb. For one week, the festival changes the look of our broadcasting organisation: I thoroughly enjoy the sight of all the people coming from so many different countries, discussing their common passion, the media.
I welcome you all very warmly and  hope that you will enjoy your stay in Berlin. I am sure it will be a unique and rewarding professional experience.

Professor Markus Schächter, Director-General - Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen

PRIX EUROPA in Berlin is one of the highlights on the schedule of every programme maker in TV and radio. There are only a few places in the world where creativity, new ideas and quality come together as easily as during the debates and discussions of this festival. ZDF has been a proud member of PRIX EUROPA from the very beginning, and I am glad to see that many of my European colleagues and their networks have joined to make this event a truly European affair.
Welcome to Berlin and welcome to Germany!

Armin Walpen, Director-General - SRG SSR idée suisse

Drawing attention to high-quality programmes of European format and promoting creative interaction on the international media market – this is the bread and butter of PRIX EUROPA. Such an objective is in line with SRG SSR idée suisse, which endeavours to convey quality, variety and relevance in multi-lingual Switzerland. PRIX EUROPA has a special quality for me: its trademark is the idée européenne.
We are proud to be a partner of PRIX EUROPA and wish the 23rd edition the best of success and cross-border attention.

As a documentary filmmaker one has always known of the PRIX EUROPA. It is an awesome title!
A group of filmmakers have viewed, argued, praised and challenged our films. No favour is shown to the good or the great, names don't count but titles and content do. The message matters. The making matters... A film that has moved us, united our various passions and predjudice into declaring a winner. A celebration! A film of content! A film good enough to deserve the Prix Europa.

David Wood, Head of Emerging Media, European Broadcasting Union - EBU

I think of the PRIX EUROPA as a garden where you see (and hear) some amazingly beautiful flowers. The creativity rubs off and new shoots germinate.  It's a place where talented people can share their experiences, and newcomers can be encouraged to go on to great things. It's simply the best event of its kind in the world.

Alexander Wrabetz, Director General, Österreichischer Rundfunk

PRIX EUROPA stands in the best tradition of European enlightenment and has for years provided a stage for outstanding radio, television and emerging media productions, pro-actively creating a forum of togetherness in the sense of cultural diversity and against discrimination and xenophobia. Putting the things we have in common over and above the things that separate us and using all the power of our media to affect integration, is the foundation and legitimation of public broadcasting throughout Europe.
