Is this your language? presents the situation when a patient comes to the optician, who changes the lenses on the trial frame, trying to find the right diopter for the patient. The main character of the video is the camera, in the position of the viewer. It is static during the whole video, using only zoom in and zoom out.
There is an eye chart lightbox hanging on the wall in the distance. The sentence ‘Is this your language?’ is written on it, in a number of languages. At the very moment when the doctor finds the right diopter for the patient, the patient recognises his own language.
Then, the doctor removes the lenses and the trial frame and puts them away. This situation raises a question ‘Why did he help you and then take it away from you?’, but also the answer - the doctor just gives a prescription for the right lenses. It is the patient who must make sure that he gets his glasses.
The patient, fascinated by this ‘tool for better sight’, then shows how it works to a group of people who do not understand each other.
